There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself once in a while of course but indulgence doesn’t always have to be at the expense of good health. Here at Comvita we like to think that even the naughtiest treats can benefit from a dash of something healthy. Even cocktails!
Luckily it doesn’t take much to make Manuka honey feel like an indulgent treat, the fact that this yummy kitchen cabinet staple possesses nutritional properties that may benefit our internal health makes it one of our absolute favourite ingredients and addition to a host of recipes
Honey has long been regarded as an excellent and highly versatile cocktail ingredient, sweetening bitter drinks just as a simple syrup does but adding a greater depth of flavour and thicker, more indulgent texture to the mix. Comvita Manuka Honey does all of the above with the added health brownie points!
Bee’s Knees
1 tablespoon Manuka Honey UMF 5+
2 ounces gin
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice
1 lemon twist to garnish
Add the honey, gin and lemon and orange juice to a cocktail shaker and combine, making sure to thoroughly incorporate the Manuka with the juices. Add ice and shake for 30 seconds. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with the lemon twist.
Hot Gin Punch
3 teacups of gin
3 teacups of Madeira wine
3 cloves
Pinch of grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
4 tablespoon Manuka Honey UMF 5+
6 large lemon and orange twists
1 slice of orange
3 large chunks of pineapple
Juice of 2 lemons
Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan and place on a low heat for 20 minutes without allowing the mixture to boil. Taste and add more honey or lemon if you feel the balance of sweet and sour needs tweaking. Cook for a further 10 minutes before pouring into a teapot and serving hot. 
Manuka Mule Caipirinha
2 oz Cachaca
1 oz Manuka Honey UMF 5+
Ginger ale
Slices of lime to garnish
Simply fill a tall glass with ice then add the Manuka and Cachaca before filling with ginger ale. Finally, stir well and garnish with a few slices of lime.
